The interior design of the Egyptian residence between originality and modernity

The local residence design had characteristics combined Egyptians ancestral homes design with the characteristics which had been imposed through colonialism and Western civilizations to become Egyptian architecture a mixture of European and Egyptian styles.

Then these Mix styles had been faded and replaced with modern European architecture in the 1940s almost, which took control of all kinds of public and private buildings, without taking into account the environmental effects as well as Egyptian human nature and his social and cultural needs.

And with the successive historical eras which influenced on the local architecture, these Styles which express about the mixed cultures had been vanished. And its identities were missed, except in a few places, accordingly the local residence design lost all contemporary standards.

In less than a century the civilizations feature vanished which had been aroused and was lasting for thousands of years, so not only the planning of cities and the forms of streets and squares, public and private buildings architecture, but also all elements of Interior design and materials used in the work of the walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, lighting accessories and all requirements of daily life.

Despite the end of colonialism and the attainment of full independence of the country for more than six decades, but the interior design and its elements still does not reflect the country_s identity and the social needs of the population.

Hence the importance of this study which examines the reasons behind the lack of Egyptian identity in interior design and furniture for modern residences , and how has the local home interior lose most important foundations?. Do the Egyptians prefer to keep pace with the times and break with the past and its concepts and styles to go after recent discoveries and ongoing evolution, than belonging to the environment, society and cultural identity stemming from the grandparents originality and their inherited?. Or might the impact of the globalization era and physical life spread to the details of everyday life and the individual needs within his home and force the Egyptians to abandon their social needs in Exchange for well being and using modern technological methods?, Or does the contemporary designer unable to blend ancestral legacies and youth aspirations?

The research on the reasons that led to the loss of Egyptian identity may be the first step in restoring it in the contemporary designs as well as a sense of the importance of cultural heritage and conservation it from vanishing, Through the use of the survey and questionnaire, So the issue of the protection of cultural heritage, and the cultural resources preservation are very important in a world that is changing rapidly day after day. In order to preserve the country identity in the face of globalization through interior design, which is the closest to humans where handled to perform all daily activities within the home.
