Smart Socks to Help and Protect Diabetics

The technological development has become a point of interest for all laboratories and research centers, to create modern fibers and textile materials with aesthetical and functional properties for high performance. Such fibers play a main rule in the future of special purpose textile Industry. More than 25% of diabetics have some serious changes in feet, due to the lake in peripheral circulation and damage of peripheral nerves, such lake leads to reduce sensation of feet and both high and low temperature. Is it possible to design and produce smart socks to help and protect diabetics?

The aim of the present work is to present a brief review about smart textiles and its medical applications, besides a survey study will be made to assign the most required properties of socks suitable for diabetics, then design and produce Smart Socks to help and protect diabetics.

The results showed that size, length over gusset, comfort, durability, ease to wear and easy care are very important properties. The parameters of cotton, plain, dark color, suitability to winter, in addition to the wear ability for a long time are recommended.
