Zinc Oxide Nanowires for Photonic Applications.

Abstract: General characteristics of ZnO nanowires and applications using optical and electrical properties are presented. Vapor-Liquid-Solid (VLS) mechanism is used as growth technique to form well aligned wires on sapphire substrates which are characterized by standard methods (SEM, absorption, photoluminescence) and near field microscopy. 

The interest in new materials for nanotechnology exists in the field of basic research as well as in the development of new applications with high potential. Typically nanowires have a diameter of a few to a few hundred nanometers, they are characterized by a high surface to volume ratio and applicable in nanooptics and nanoelectronics.
