Spectroscopic, thermal, catalytic and biological studies of Cu (II) azo dye complexes
New complexes of copper (II) with azo compounds of 5-amino-2-(aryl diazenyl)
phenol (HL n) are prepared and investigated by elemental analyses, molar conductance, IR,
1 H NMR, UV–Visible, mass, ESR spectra, magnetic susceptibility measurements and
thermal analyses. The complexes have a square planar structure and general formula [Cu (L
n)(OAc)] H 2 O. Study the catalytic activities of Cu (II) complexes toward oxidation of benzyl
alcohol derivatives to carbonyl compounds were tested using H 2 O 2 as the oxidant. The
intrinsic binding constants (K b) of the ligands (HL n) and Cu (II) complexes (1–4) with CT-
DNA are determined. The formed compounds have been tested for biological activity of
antioxidants, antibacterial against Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-
negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria and yeast Candida albicans. Antibiotic (Ampicillin) …
