The effect of concurrent training on some physical fitness characteristics and the accuracy of forehand and backhand depth strokes in young tennis

The aim of current study was to examine the effect of uses strength and endurance exercises (Concurrent Training) together at the same training session to improve the physical fitness characteristics (muscle strength and aerobic endurance) and show its influence on the skill performance accuracy, which is important demand during the game when player stroke the forehand and backhand in the depth area at the opposite player field and with regard to the performance demands in the tennis young game.

The researchers used the experimental design by two groups (Experimental and Control) and with pre and post-tests. The participants were 18 young tennis players (U18) years (8 experimental players from Geziret Elward Sporting Club and 8 control players from Wadi Degla SC) and underwent for training program over 8 weeks, which considered 3 training sessions every week.  

Spss program was used for statistical analysis by the non-parametric statistics method, which was accurately for small sample sizes in the current study.

    The results showed that, eight weeks of concurrent training improved the arm and leg muscle abilities (Handgrip muscle strength of dominant arm, muscle endurance, legs muscle strength). In addition, the concurrent training improved the VO2max and the accuracy of forehand and backhand depth strokes.
