Some inorganic pollutants species have been determined by atomic absorption technique in the drinking water in Damietta governorate. The samples treated were delivered monthly from four different stations within one year. Lead, copper, zinc, iron, nickel, cadmium, manganese and cobalt species were directly aspirated into atomic absorption spectrophotometr for the direct determination in the presence of the suitable chemical modifier for each element and after preconcentration via solvent extraction. The results were compared with those obtained after treatment of the water samples with oleic acid surfactant or polyacrylonitrile-chrcoal composite. The results obtained by the last treatment are highly concordent compared with those already established by water station. The mechanism of the preconcentration has been discussed.
