New Damietta is a new city containing industrial, commercial and recreational activities. A
lit-tle attention was given to the negative impact resulting from these activities as discharging of
solid or liquid wastes to water streams. The aim of this work is to evaluate some pollutants in
different water bodies at New Damietta city through the analysis of some important
physico-chemical characteristics and some heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Fe, Pb and Zn) in different water
bod-ies. Water samples were collected seasonally (autumn 2008, winter, spring and summer 2009)
from ten sites which include all water bodies in the city. New Damietta drain samples showed
minimum concentrations of dissolved oxygen and maximum concentrations of biological oxygen
demand, chemical Oxygen demand, ammonia and total nitrogen in contrast to Mediterranean
Sea samples. Copper, iron and zinc concentrations in all water samples were matching with the
Egyptian law no. 4 / 1994.
