Atomic absorption spectrometric investigation and determination of zinc using ethanolamine as a chemical modifier

The atomic absorption signal of 2 ppm zinc is greatly affected by the presence of foreign species. Most of the effects on the atomicabsorption response of zinc are completely normalized by controlling the observation height and the flame profile of the measurements. Inherent effects of some organic compounds, iron and berate are totally by adding 0.25 mel L(-1) of ethanolamine in HCl to both the sample and standard solutions. A mechanism for the interfering effects is suggested. Also, the role of ethanolamine as a chemical modifier for zinc is discussed. Moreover, a method has been applied for the determination of zinc in some complexes.
