The philosophical basis of Lucien Goldmann\_s Genetic Structuralism

Abstract: Research in theoretical criticism has always received unfavourable welcome by many researchers especially those whose main focus was practical criticism for much of their work lacked a theoretical frame of reference to guide their analysis of texts. One of the theories that received too little attention in Arabic literary criticism is Lucien Goldmann_s Genetic Structuralism. The present study attempts to throw light on the contribution of Goldmann_s theory long-neglected-to literary criticism to fill a gap in this respect. Emphasis is laid on the four basic tenets of Goldmann_s critical theory, namely the philosophical, the Marxist, the Structuralist and literary critical and their importance for the procedural terminology his theory rests on.
