In this course students will study: Introductory fluid dynamics: Newtonian, non-Newtonian fluids. Laminar and turbulent flow Sediment transport and bedforms Interpreting sedimentary successions: Facies, Facies analysis and Facies models Ichnology and Facies models Climate, tectonics, isostacy and glacio-eustacy: relative sea level sediment supply and stratigraphic preservation potential Siliciclastic facies models Glacial deposits, Alluvial deposits, Eolian dystems, Wave- and Storm-dominated shoreline and Shallow-marine systems Tidal Depositional systems, Deltas, Transgressive Wave-dominated coasts, Deep-marine sediments and Sedimentary systems Biological and chemical sedimentary facies Models, Warm-water Neritic Carbonates Cool- and Cold-water neritic carbonates Peritidal Carbonates reefs carbonate slopes Bioelemental Sediments Marine Evaporites Lakes Evaporite deposits -sabkha evaporites, subaqueous deposits, basin models and mixed carbonate/evaporite successions.
