New perspectives on the teaching of listening.

This descriptive study aims at surveying the recent writings on the teaching of listening for the sake of developing the teaching and researching of listening skill.  The study is concerned with seven major cores preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion.  The first major core deals with writings on some notions related to the listening skill and its teaching.  The last major core illustrates selected new trends of testing listening.  The rest of the cores describe five different trends to approach the teaching of listening in language classes.  Each core ends up with brief comments and/or practical implications.  Readers of the present study could be curriculum developers, course designers, researchers, teachers, and student-teachers interested in the field of language teaching.
