This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of a consciousness-raising program on developing the spelling skill of prospective teachers of English. The sample of the study consisted of 303 third-year university students studying at the department of English (Damietta Faculty of Education, MansouraUniversity). The researcher made use of the quasi-experimental research design where his Spelling Skill Exam was used as a pre- and post-test. The researcher’s proposed program was constructed and taught in order to raise the subjects’ consciousness of he targeted spelling rules. Among other findings, it was proved that consciousness-raising of the targeted rules significantly improved the students’ spelling performance. The study concluded with recommendations related to the processes involved in language learning.
